At OpenView Education, we deliver Knife Crime Awareness Workshops that offer a proactive, early intervention approach for schools.

Created specifically for Upper Key Stage 2 and Year 7, these workshops provide a safe, age-appropriate space for pupils to explore the topic of knife crime through engaging storytelling, discussion, and interactive learning.

We have a large number of productions in repertory, so it is possible to devise a workshop around other operas that may be especially relevant to a particular school or year group. The Dogs Trust Education Team have been delivering free educational workshops and assemblies across the UK since 2003. Teaching children about safe behaviour around dogs and guiding them on how to build a loving bond with their four-legged friends is an important part of what we do at Dogs Trust. By helping children learn about safe and appropriate behaviour around dogs using up to date research we believe we can improve the welfare of dogs, both in the homes of the children we teach, as well as dogs they may meet when out and about in the community. Our dog-focussed programme aims to encourage attitudes and values in children that in turn lead to behaviours that are conducive with both dog welfare, as well as their own safety.

This high-definition planetarium experience includes learning about the planets of the Solar System, both the rocky and gas giants, and how they are held by the Sun's gravity. Pupils vividly witness that the Sun, Earth and Moon are approximately spherical - and the way these objects move relative to the Sun. They also observe how the Moon, rockets and satellites move relative to the Earth; and see for themselves how we experience day and night. The 360° planetarium can also dynamically describe the phases of the Moon, the reason for the seasons, and take children on a hyper-realistic rollercoaster ride to experience inertia, gravity and centripetal acceleration first hand!

In all other subjects, children start with the basics, move into the middle ground and then onto more advanced levels. Of course, if we started kids on Ladybird books and jumped straight to Tolstoy, we’d have a serious problem. However, this seems to be the case with coding. It is the common-ground to start with tools like Scratch and other ‘block based’ environments and then move onto Python and other real-world languages. There’s nothing wrong with either platform, just that quite simply, the gap between them is far too wide and as such we are likely to lose many potential candidates on the way. FUZE provides a transition between these two environments and in doing so lowers the barriers to entry of the real-world languages. Without a reasonable understanding of the core coding principles, Python and C etc. can look extremely complicated. However, by learning in the middle ground with FUZE things start to fall into place.
