Workshop/Assembly Summary:

Meet Sol the dragon.

The first workshop will introduce children to a unique and innovative approach to storytelling in which the team will bring a mythical story to life in front of the children’s eyes. Through linking the story to the book that will have been discovered prior to the visit, children will be able to become part of the story and will be used as a crucial element of this interactive, learning journey. This workshop will finish by encouraging children to use their imaginations and  leave them wondering what happens next, leading to an array of writing opportunities.

As a hook before our visit, we will send your school an old book that will include a riddle (it is at the schools discretion to whether they use this – as other learning experiences may already be organised). The idea of children becoming intrigued and curious about a book with no idea what it might mean is extremely exciting and we have found this has had a massive impact on children’s engagement. It is a compelling catalyst into learning as it forms a base for various questions and predictions relating to learning opportunities  before we arrive.

The second workshop focuses on expanding vocabulary and encouraging children to verbally discuss ideas that transfer into writing, using our green screen to ignite their imaginations. This is differentiated from EYFS to Year 6. All of the content in this workshop is directly linked to writing, drama and ICT outcomes. All edited videos will be sent to your school for evidence and for children to see their marvellous work on the big screen.

The third workshop gives children the opportunity to work in small groups and apply the skills they learnt from Workshop 2.

Children will create their own ‘Green Screen’ videos using iPads and share with their peers. Younger children will use the iPads to orally rehearse sentences and make a video, using technology purposefully to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content. Please send us an email or give us a call and we can go through which workshops would work best for your school and what subjects would be targeted.

The three different workshops are all available to schools. However, prior to your booking we will cater a visit to meet the needs of your school to ensure all of the children you want to target, are experiencing aspects of the visit. We understand every school is different, therefore, if you have any questions about structure, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

Additional Information:

With regards to price, please contact us using the button below. Every visit is bespoke to the specific school depending on what you want to achieve through a 'Teach Rex' visit.

Although some of the workshops may be targeted at certain age groups (studying dinosaurs) we always encourage the whole school being involved in the assembly. This gives all of the children an opportunity to experience something out of the ordinary. We are also happy to send 'Curriculum Idea Packs' to every year group in your school.
