Our CSI Workshops are proven to excite Pupils curiosity in Science and STEM and are available to book for Primary, Secondary, Independent & Special Educational Needs Schools & PRU’s. We offer full-day Science Workshops delivered on a nationwide basis.

Our CSI Workshops are tailored accordingly to each Key Stage including KS2, KS3, KS4. Additionally, we deliver a specific BTEC Forensic Science Workshop tailored to your specific BTEC modules. All our workshops can be tailored to your school’s specific requirements and timetable and students abilities. Ideally, depending upon pupil numbers. A school hall/gym is required for a full day onsite delivery.

However, because of the demand and because of COVID19 we are now offering an online programme. Details of which will be launched in the next few weeks.

Working Scientifically in the new curriculum Science stimulates and excites pupils’ curiosity about phenomena and events in the world around them. It also satisfies this curiosity with knowledge. Because science links direct practical experience with ideas it can engage learners at many levels. The Scientific method is about developing and evaluating explanations through experimental evidence and modelling. This is a spur to critical and creative thought, all pupils learn to question and discuss science-based issues that may affect their own lives, never has this been so relevant than now!

TRANSITION - The national curriculum (2013) calls for a ‘secure understanding’ of knowledge and concepts of science, stating that ‘insecure [and] superficial understanding’ will hinder progression, specifically identifying ‘key points of transition (between primary and secondary school)’ as a time of high risk. Pulse Education has identified this risk and has noticed a high demand for workshop services between the transitional period of key stage 2 to key stage 3. All schools who engage with the workshops report a significant increase within pupil attainment for scientific subjects. Pulse Education workshops actively provide an interactive baseline for students to progress into the levels of scientific enquiry expected in key stage 3 studies.

CSI FORENSIC SCIENCE WORKSHOP | (Full Day Workshop)

Morning Session - During the morning session all pupils wilfully engaged in practical, 'hands-on' activities, these will include learning about the processes and applications used at a Crime Scene including, Fingerprinting using Magnetic Powder and Black Ink. Additionally, the pupils will be looking at Footwear castings and doing Footprints, in addition to analysing their hair and fibres from their clothing. The last part of this session is looking at the collection and preservation of evidence at a Crime Scene and the importance of evidence retrieval and the significant part it plays in a court of law, giving the pupils an insight into the Criminal Justice System.

Afternoon Session - During the afternoon session, all pupils will don a White SOCO (Scene of Crime Officer) suit, gloves, mask and overshoes and then they will be required to apply their newly acquired skill-set learnt from the morning session to their group Crime Scenes and investigate and report their findings with the help of Suspect Profiles and all the authentic forensic resources. The afternoon session helps promote team building, problem-solving and encourages your pupils to equally, work independently. Our CSI Workshops are guaranteed to Inspire, Motivate, Engage and completely keep your pupils on task!

OPTIONAL CEOP Session - Our workshops have continued to be developed and we can now include e-Safety IT Sessions. We are STEM Ambassadors and Ambassadors for the Child Exploitation Online Protection Programme (CEOP) and are able to offer their “THINKUKNOW” Programme which is now being delivered to Schools throughout the UK and being received very favourably.

Testimonials:

“We would like to express our gratitude to Pulse CSI for the forensic science workshop delivered at Longfield Primary School. It was a fantastic real-world taste of the actual work done by CSI agents and scientists. Giving children the opportunity to immerse themselves in their learning, engaging with it at greater depth.

The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all students and staff. We were very impressed by the friendly and professional manner in which the session was conducted as well as the organisation and the quality of the resources provided. Whilst the workshop itself provided ample opportunity for children to acquire new skills and knowledge, it also had the additional benefit of being a great team-building exercise and we were all taken aback by the autonomy of the children when facing challenges, especially in the second half of the day.

We are especially grateful for your input on e-Safety, an area often considered laborious and dull, which was brought to life and made totally relatable.”

“This was a tailored CSI Workshop we delivered in conjunction with the school, what a fantastic day! I wonder what the theme will be next year! “Forensics Day with PulseCSI was an absolutely brilliant day. From start to finish, the pupils were totally engaged in the crime, the CSI training and the application of their newly acquired skills.

Basing the day around a ‘crime’ committed on school grounds, CSI Thompson led the pupils through the entire process of a forensic investigation carefully teaching them the skills they would need to solve the ‘crime.’ Fingerprint analysis, hair and fibre techniques and suspect profiles fascinated the pupils who were thrilled to be kitted out in full Forensic kit straight away. Suspect and witness interviews throughout the course of the day dovetailed with forensics analysis leading to the final line-up of suspects and concluding questions from the pupils. A last-minute call from the Forensic lab revealed the true culprit in a dramatic denouement at the end of the day. We would all like to thank CSI Thompson for a fantastic day!”

”Many thanks again for the session you did on Tuesday at our school, the children all thoroughly enjoyed it and the staff did too!

From start to finish the entire day was well organised and resourced, enabling all of the children to access the activities that were planned and develop brand new skills. The taking of fingerprints, handprints, shoe threads and looking at hair through a microscope, allowed the children to discover what CSIs actually do and to understand what would actually happen if they committed a crime in real life.

The 90 children that participated were engaged for the entire day and the fact that so many of them remained in their CSI outfits (despite the warm weather) just showed their commitment to the session and activities that they were given. This really is a credit to what you do. In the afternoon, we saw some of our quieter children really come out of their shells and fully participate in solving who had committed the murder, which was great to see too. St. Elphin’s thank you once again for such an amazing day!”
